Preparing for work experience with progressive activities
One of the best ways to prepare your students for their work placement experiences is to start early with building awareness of their skills and the opportunities available to them. A good place to start is with this core transferable skills activity which helps to give students an understanding of some of the key skills for the workplace.
The resources highlighted below focus on two themes 'recognising and utilising skills' and 'understanding the role of skills in different jobs'.
Theme 1: Recognising and utilising skills
These resources get students to think about their aspirations and current skills and how they can continue to build new skills throughout their time at school particularly around the skills employers are looking for such as communication, problem solving and adaptability.
Theme 2: Understand the role of skills in different jobs
These resources then link the skills they have been learning about to jobs across a variety of key sectors and helps learners to then recognise their existing skills and identify ones that need to be developed for those jobs.
